Initially, I was only doing indoor cycle classes (which I absolutely LOVE!). Since I walked through the doors at CycleLife Studio back in January 2014, my life changed.

As I went through my twenties and now my thirties, my body started slowing down, and I almost forgot how to work out.

Thank you for opening Cycle Life Studio for I have not only gained physical strength and stamina, but I have also met some of the most amazing people who I now have as life-long friends.Įxercising has always been an important part of my life being a gymnast and competitive cheerleader. We can’t thank Mike enough for helping us become better cyclists and achieving our goals!

We look forward to returning to another “Spicy” (Mike’s favorite word) winter training session at CycleLife Studio. of elevation), The Climb to the Clouds, The Flattest Century and The Mayor Taylor. We have many more rides to cross off our list this year, Mt. We are faster and stronger riders because of CycleLife and the personal training we received from Mike. We trained hard at CycleLife and it paid off. With all the training, we conquered it no problem and felt great at the end. We couldn’t wait to take our training outside in the spring, as our biggest goal for 1-year riders was the B2VT. Although Mike says, “You did all the work,” he was always there at 5AM to motivate us and push us to our limits. Not only did we raise our FTP but we also came out stronger and more educated cyclists. Six months at CycleLife was the best cycling training anyone could ask for. You could see how passionate Mike is aboutĬycling, but more importantly how much he enjoys coaching others to improve their ability. Throughout this training Mike taught us (both in the studio and out riding together) how to ride more efficiently, how to utilize power correctly and better monitor our heart rate, along with so much more. We found there are so many different FTP based programs that can be tailored to your individual experience level, abilities and goals. Using a CompuTrainer program with Mike Moraites, a certified USA Cycling Coach, was a whole new experience. Into this training at first thinking it was a lot like spinning classes, but boy we were so wrong. We started the winter training program at the beginning of November. In the fall I convinced my husband to join me, as I was frustrated with my lack of progress.

For 5 months I rode with various groups and picked up the basics of cycling, but I routinely struggled to stay with the group.

Sure I rode a bike as a kid and mountain biked in my early 20’s but knew nothing about road biking. A 2-3% grade on the Ctrainer is about what you'll face in real life at LP (which is in the 2-4% range). In June of 2014, I started cycling for health reasons. If you do those hours on the Ctrainer, just pick (or build) a long course with rolling hills that take 10-20 minutes to get up, followed by 20-30 minutes on the flats. The rest of your IM prep is long, long hours in the saddle. The book that comes with the trainer has some of Friel's recommended bike strength workouts in it. I think your Computrainer time is best spent doing specific strength building sessions, such as 4-5 reps of 8-minutes on a 6-8% grade at 65-75 cadence. Get in some solid one hour long hill climbs. I'd suggest 10 or more 5 or 6 hour steady rides in the months before LP. It's hours and hours of riding over rolling terrain at a steady pace. It's not the exact spacing and length of hills that gets you ready for LP.

The full list is over on Computrainer's website.Īs for using them for race prep - take that whole thought with a great big grain (bag?) of salt.
